Mikhail Burtsev defended his PhD thesis at the M. V. Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics. He has worked on modeling the evolution of behavior, neuro-evolutionary architectures, and studies of primary neuronal cultures. In his Neural Networks and Deep Learning Laboratory at MIPT, the first Russian-language language model
RuBERT was trained, and the popular open-source library for conversational AI systems,
DeepPavlov, was developed. Since its founding, Mikhail has served as Director of Fundamental Research at the AIRI Institute, where he took part in the project to train the DNA language model
GENA-LM. He is currently a Landau AI Fellow at the
London Institute of Mathematical Sciences.
